Bristol Central TC now hosts ‘Central Stringers’, your new racket stringing service, run by Matt Hawthorne, Zac Schroeder-Lewis, Chris Counter and James Wright – contact them directly or via the Stringers email.
Stringing is done on a professional machine at the club with pick up from the bar, different strings and tensions, new grips, grommets and bumper strips – at a competitive rate…
You will be pleased to hear that courts 3 & 4 will be cleaned and repainted this week.
Work begins on Monday 12th and the painting will begin on the 14th. The courts will remain unplayable until at least the 19th (longer if it rains).
Notices will be put up in the clubhouse.
This does mean that the Improvers course and Third Saturday tournament will be postponed by a week.
Not long to go before the junior summer camps, sign up with Kerris
We hope as many of you as possible will come along to BCTC Club Fun Day on Sunday 3rd July. There will be lots going on and we hope there will be something for everyone.
The schedule is:
10.00 – 10.30 am – Cardio Warm Up
Get in the mood for the American Tournament with a half hour cardio warm up, loosen up those muscles and step to the beat – or just come along and try something new.
10.30 am – 12 noon – American Tournament
Current Improvers will have had their own tournament during the week and there is a First Saturday Tournament taking place on Saturday 2nd July at 2.15 pm. So, this is for all those junior and adult club and league players who would like to have a good hit. If you haven’t braved the cardio warm up, come along for 10.15 am so we can organise the first matches on court to start at 10.30.
12 Noon – 1.30 pm – Improvers Final, Mens’ Singles Final and Family Fun
Two courts will be used for the Finals and the other two courts for all members and their families to come along and play together. Our coaches will also be organising some fun drills. This proved hugely successful last year and kept us all on our toes.
1.30 – 3.30 pm – Junior Wimbledon Tournament
This is the third “Grand Slam” event of the year for the juniors. Please can anyone interested in playing sign up on the junior notice board so a draw can be arranged.
During the day there will be an on-going “speed of serve” competition and a “team rally” event taking place on the practice wall.
Refreshments will be available all day. Tea, coffee and cake during the morning and afternoon sessions. BBQ, Pimms and strawberries over the lunch period and early afternoon and the bar will be open.
Last year’s fun event was enjoyed by many. Please come along, join in and meet other members and their families.
BCTC took to the airwaves this week, appearing on BBC Radio Bristol’s Sports Store (38 minutes in). Carol, John and Kerris (and Betsy) showed off the club’s history, energy, inclusiveness and warmth.
The show is available until the end of July 2016 at http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p03y6bp0 and the BCTC section starts 38 minutes in.
Winter 2015 saw the installation of the Practice wall beyond court 4.
A gently angled, AstroTurf-covered Rebo wall is available for members to practice their shots against, when not out on court.
Another glorious winter of tennis is drawing to a close and it is time to look ahead to the joys of playing in the warm, dry and daylight – spring will soon be here.
In April club membership is renewed and it is a period of transition for Improvers: do another course or move up to full membership. This is not an easy decisions for you or the club. Club play is an unknown and intimidating prospect after the comfortable camaraderie of the Improvers course:
“I’m not good enough” you think,
“Maybe I’ll just do another course to be on the safe side”
From the club’s point of view, we don’t know how you have been doing over the last few months since you finished the course. have you been playing and sharpening those skills you were taught or has the damp winter air put you off playing again this week.
So, to help both parties, we will be running an Improvers tournament on March 17th at 7 pm, with the added spice of having invited some club players to come along and join in. You get to play with or against them in some doubles matches to see what it takes to play in the club and at the same time the club gets to see how you are doing and what might be the best next step for you.
I am sure there will be food and drink in the bar, to keep the evening entertaining. Stay tuned for more information…
